There are many aspects that shape our urban built environment, including human activity, spatial compositions, and materiality. Materials and their affordances and experiences play a particular role in this context, influencing what we perceive and how we interact [1]. In this article, we reflect on the place-material relationship by presenting natural materials and how they may influence people's spatial experience in the urban realm.
